GEMS Hospital needs your support!

GEMS Hospital (Gospel Echoing Missionary Society) is a Christian Missionary Hospital in the federal Indian state of Bihar, it helps everyone that needs urgent medical attention.

Not all people can do the long 3 day walk to the hospital. That’s why the hospital regularly organizes medical care camps, with honorary doctors. Fighting against child labour and caring for the excluded groups.

The federal state of Bihar capital is Patna, the state borders Nepal and has a total population of about 104 million – constantly increasing. The national language is mostly Hindi and the economy is mainly based on agriculture. With an average income per capita under the Indian average. That’s why Bihar is regarded as the poorest and most underdeveloped Indian federal state.

Many residents live under the most squalled conditions with their goats and cows on the street in wooden shacks. The great climatic changes like 5 °C in winter and 50 °C in summer are a huge challenge for the entire population. The monsoon rains also brings floods. The medical care suffers under these extremes too.

These problems prevail in the hospital

3 years ago, the Indian government issued new hygiene regulations that must be fulfilled to avoid the GEMS Hospital shutting down. On 4 of these regulations, we could provide valuable help:
With your help the old soil hospital flooring could be renewed. The ICU, delivery room, women’s ward and a dental surgery was renewed and re-equipped. There are still many points that need your help:

Your help is needed in many areas:

  • More assistant doctors are required, anesthesiologists, pediatricians and orthopedists.
  • Trained anesthesia nurses are required, including X-Ray Technicians, midwives and nurses.
  • The new electricity installation is only 75 % completed.
  • On the 2nd floor, the flooring, chairs, and the air conditioning must be renewed.
  • The entire hospital needs a fire extinguisher system
  • Further equipment required (a washing machine), medical Items i.e. bandages and medicine
There is still no washing machine and drying outside

A washing machine is needed

This way can GEMS Hospital receive and use the donations and sponsorship for the doctors or building projects or finishing reequipping the wards. The cost of the medical items and the medicines are also covered here.

We also support the following projects on site

In Bihar, GEMS Hospital helps with village development projects, preventive healthcare and medical care in the villages, and school education through sponsorships for over 1,200 children.

Children who work in quarries or in brick making are given opportunities for education through sponsorships. Quarry work and bonded labor often go hand in hand there.
